EVRÓPAN is an online news publication, covering European Affairs in Iceland.

Being the only Icelandic news publication that specialises in European Affairs, EVRÓPAN´s purpose is to support news coverage of Europe and the European Institutions in Iceland, to promote focused, accurate and detailed coverage of European Affairs and therefore support the debate on European matters in Iceland. In that context, great emphasis is put on independence and unbiased journalism.

EVRÓPAN does not take part in Icelandic politics and does not take a stand on the possible membership of Iceland to the European Union.

The Editor in Chief of EVRÓPAN is Sema Erla Serdar, a Political Scientist, specialised in European Union Politics and Law.

Iceland is connected to other European countries, politically and economically, as well as historically. Iceland participates in European (as well as international) cooperation’s, and is a member of NATO, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the European Free Trade Association, the European Economic Area and Schengen.

Iceland has been an active participant in European cooperations for the last decades and it is clear that it affects the Icelandic society and the Icelandic people. It is therefore important for the Icelandic population to have good access to information and news coverage of European Affairs that affects us all, directly or indirectly.

It was from that vision that the idea of EVRÓPAN came to light.

Since March 2014, EVRÓPAN has been publishing free and independent news on European Affairs. During the first few months of our operation EVRÓPAN has grown rapidly, both in coverage as well as exposure, and has established itself as a reliable and trustworthy news publication that covers European Affairs.
